This course helps students build strong skills in oral communication, reading, writing, and media literacy—essential for success in high school and beyond. Students will explore and analyze a range of literary works from both contemporary and historical periods, interpret informational and visual texts, and produce their own oral, written, and media pieces in different formats. A key emphasis is placed on developing strategies that strengthen clarity, expression, and effective communication.
This course strengthens students’ understanding of key math concepts, including number sense, algebra, measurement, geometry, data, probability, and financial literacy. Through problem-solving, modeling, and coding, students will connect their learning to real-world and culturally relevant applications. They will also continue to develop critical reasoning skills—such as proportional, spatial, and algebraic reasoning—while learning to communicate their ideas effectively.
This course enables students to develop their understanding of concepts related to biology, chemistry, physics,
and Earth and space science, and to relate science to technology, society, and the environment. Throughout the course, students will
develop and refine their STEM skills as they use scientific research, scientific experimentation, and engineering design processes to
investigate concepts and apply their knowledge in situations that are relevant to their lives and communities. Students will continue
to develop transferable skills as they become scientifically literate global citizens.
In this course, students will explore how Canada’s natural and human systems are connected to each other and to the wider world. They will examine key environmental and economic issues related to natural resources, industries, land use, careers, and sustainable development. The course also emphasizes understanding the relationships that communities—including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit—have with the land and with one another. Using geographic thinking, inquiry skills, and geospatial technologies, students will investigate real-world issues and develop a deeper awareness of Canada’s place in a global context.
This course combines two or more art forms—such as dance, drama, media arts, music, and visual arts—allowing students to create and present original works individually or in groups. Students will explore concepts, styles, and techniques unique to each discipline, while building transferable skills that extend beyond the classroom. Through the creative process and responsible practices, they will develop innovative approaches to solving artistic challenges and expressing ideas in new ways.

Through a variety of physical activities, students will build movement skills, fitness, and confidence, while exploring factors that influence healthy development. They will also strengthen their self-awareness, teamwork, and critical thinking abilities—skills that support both personal well-being and positive connections with others.
